Access a document’s audit trail

An audit trail serves as your document’s permanent history, capturing every view, edit, and signature with precise timestamps and IP addresses. This automated log provides the evidence needed to verify the integrity of your agreements and meet strict compliance standards. With all activity documented in one place, you have a rock-solid chain of custody for every file you process.

How to view a document’s audit trail

An audit trail is available for all documents you sent or signed. To retrieve it:

  1. Go to Signatures in your workspace and click View details on any document card.

  2. Click History to view a complete log of actions and changes (document creation, updates, completion, opens, views, status changes, and signatures).

How to export a document with its audit trail

When viewing a document’s details, click Export > Download with history. You will find a full audit trail at the last page of a downloaded document.

The signer can also access an audit trail if they choose to download a signed copy along with its history log.
