The contract editor is a block-based text editor built for agreements. Type and format clauses, add tables and columns, and place fields for signers in one live draft that stays editable until you send it.
1. Open a document in the contract editor
Start a new document or bring in one you already have:
Start from scratch: In your dashboard, click New document > Create document and start typing, or paste text from another document.
Upload a text file: Click New document > Upload from computer and select a .docx, .doc, .dot, .dotx, .md, .rtf, or .odt file.
Import from Google Drive: Click New document > Import from Google Drive and pick a text document from your cloud storage.
The contract editor works with text files only. PDFs, including Loio’s legal templates, open in the PDF editor. Learn more about PDF editing→
When you paste text, Loio keeps its original formatting and turns each paragraph into a separate block for easy management and customization.
2. Add, remove, and arrange blocks
Every paragraph, heading, list, or table in the contract editor is a separate block you can modify, format, and move around.
Add a block: Hover over a block and click + on its left to add a new one below. You can also press Enter/Return to insert an empty line for a new block.
Choose a block type: On an empty line, type / or click + to open the block menu, then pick a block type before you start typing.
Move a block: Hover over a block, then drag ⠿ to move it up or down the document.
Delete a block: Hover over a block and click ⠿ > Remove.
Available content blocks:
Heading: Title, Heading 1-4
Paragraph: Body, Section, Footnote
Image
Table
Page break
Bulleted list
Numbered list
Two/Three columns
3. Format text
Select any text to open the floating toolbar, then change:
Text style: Switch between normal text, headings, and lists.
Text size: Adjust the font size as needed.
Emphasis: Make text bold, italic, or underlined.
Alignment and indent: Center, justify, or align text to the left or right; increase or decrease indent.
Links: Add a link to the selected text.
Comment: Attach a comment to the selected text.
You can also reformat any block entirely by hovering over it and clicking ⠿ > Format.
4. Use columns and pages
Columns: Click + and choose Two columns or Three columns to place content side by side. Each column can hold text and fillable fields. This is ideal for multi-language contracts or when you need to place three parallel signature sections.
New page: Press Enter/Return at the end of the last block on a page, or click + below the last page to add a new one.
5. Adjust document settings
Settings apply to the whole document. Click ☰ in the top-right corner, then select Settings to change:
Document font: One font for the entire document.
Page format: The page size for all pages (Letter, A4, Legal).
Page numbering: Turn numbers on and choose where they appear on the page.
List formats: Choose how bullets and numbering look in lists.
After you’ve configured everything, don’t forget to click Apply.
6. Save, copy, and export
Your changes save as you work, and saved documents stay editable. To leave the editor or reuse a document, click ☰ and choose:
Save as draft: Manually save the current version of your draft as a checkpoint you can return to later.
Duplicate: Create a separate editable copy under a new name, for example, to reuse an agreement for another client.
Copy as PDF: Create a PDF copy of a document and open it in Loio’s dedicated PDF editor.
To download, print, or email a document, click Export in the top-right corner. Documents export as PDF files.
Important: A copy keeps all the content of the original. Before sending it, check names, dates, prices, and other client-specific details.
