Loio’s editor allows you to overlay interactive fields onto any PDF. Whether you need a simple signature or a complex intake form, you can drag and drop fields, assign them to specific signers, and send the document for completion to multiple people at once.
How to insert and position fields
Open your document in the editor and follow these steps to start building your form:
Switch mode: Select the For signers tab in the top of the left-hand toolbar.
Add fields: Choose a field type and click anywhere on the document to place it.
Move & resize: Adjust field positioning by dragging the box. Resize it by pulling the corner anchor points to fit your document's layout.
Available field types
You can use various interactive boxes to collect different types of information:
Signature: Allows the signer to create and insert their legally binding electronic signature.
Initials: Provides a compact option for signers to initial specific clauses.
Text: Ideal for short entries like names, addresses, or specific data points; allows for field validation.
Multiline: Best for longer responses, comments, or descriptions.
Date: Lets signers select a date from a calendar picker; allows the sender to pre-set a preferred date format.
Checkbox: Used for multiple-choice selections or agreement to terms.
Assigning fields to signers
To ensure each recipient fills out the correct information, you must assign fields to specific signers.
Add signers: Click Add signer in the left-hand toolbar to add one or multiple parties to the document. Each signer is assigned a unique color. When you place a field, its color indicates which signer it is currently assigned to.
Re-assigning: To change the assignee, select a field on the document and use the Assignee dropdown in the floating toolbar to choose a different signer.
Signers’ specific email addresses are provided at the next step (when preparing an eSignature request, after clicking Send).
ℹ️ Pro tip: Your field placements and assignments are saved for future use, so you don't have to set them up every time you need to send the same document for signing. Just don’t forget to hit Save in the top-right corner of the editor to save your changes.
Customizing fields
Use the floating toolbar that appears when a field is selected to:
1. Provide entry hints
For Text, Multiline, and Date fields, use the Hint input to label fields, or choose from suggested options.
Labeling a field allows you to provide hints for recipients regarding the information requested in it and makes the process of completing a document more intuitive.
For example, instead of leaving the default “Enter text,” specify exactly what information the signer must provide (full name, email, job title, etc.).
2. Set field validation
Use the Text validation dropdown on Text fields to enforce specific data formats. This helps verify that the recipient enters information correctly before the document can be completed. Loio offers multiple validation options:
Email address: Ensures the input follows a standard email format (e.g., name@example.com).
Phone number: Verifies a valid phone number format.
Social security number: Restricts input to the standard Social Security Number format.
Price: Requires the entry to be in a valid currency format, allowing for decimal points.
Numbers only: Prevents the entry of any non-numeric characters, suitable for ID numbers or quantities.
Letters only: Restricts input to alphabetic characters, which is useful for fields like names or countries.
If the recipient makes a mistake during the signing session, they will be prompted to correct it. They won’t be able to submit a document unless they enter data correctly.
3. Adjust font sizу
Change the input font size for Text, Multiline, and Date fields. This ensures the recipient’s input is legible and fits well within your document layout.
4. Duplicate and delete fields
Duplicate: Quickly create a copy of a field with the same dimensions and assignment.
Delete: Remove a field from the document.
When you’re finished setting up fields, don’t forget to click Save in the top-right corner to save your progress.
